AVG AntiVirus
This is an excellent free anti virus program that has frequent virus definition updates that install automatically. Will scan all incoming and outgoing email, and is easy to install and configure.

Adaware
This program should be ran weekly on any computer that is on the internet. It will scan for spyware, and then give you the option to delete any found.

Spybot
This is also a program that should be ran weekly. While this program is very similar to AdAware, it will find some spyware that AdAware will not. It should be used in conjunction with AdAware.

Zone Alarm
This is a popular firewall. This product often lets you know about "false alarms", and can disrupt your internet experience. Recommended for more advanced users.

Microsoft Defender
This is an alternative to using AdAware and Spybot. This program will run in the background while you are on the internet and detect spyware as it comes in. It will also update itself automatically. This is recommended for those that don't want to deal with updating and running their spyware on a weekly basis. The catch to this is that it will also block some items that are not spyware, and may disrupt you web browsing.

Mozilla Internet Browser
This is a better alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. The look and feel is almost the same. This is a better option because most spyware is directed at the security holes in Microsoft's products. This software will greatly reduce the amount of problems that you may have with Internet Explorer. Highly recommended.
