K9 Units
    
Article Searches: Both K-9 Paco and K-9 Bach are trained to passively alert during an article search. An article search is a search conducted for any type of article (keys, clothing, knife, gun, etc) used by someone and lost in any type of terrain (grass, dirt, snow). When K-9 Paco or K-9 Bach find the article they go to the down position with the article located between their front paws.
As an example K-9 Bach was used to locate a handgun used in the commission of a home invasion. The handgun was tossed by the offender as the offender tried to flee the scene. The home invasion occurred at night and was difficult for the patrolman on duty to see where the gun may be. K-9 Bach was then used to search for the weapon. After a few minutes K-9 Bach was able to find the gun and also an unspent bullet, using his nose.
