Suspect Apprehension: Both the Alton Police Canines are trained in the “bite and hold” technique for suspect apprehensions. Depending on the circumstance of a crime a dog may be used to apprehend or catch a fleeing suspect. Four legs are usually faster then two legs and a dog in pursuit of a fleeing criminal will usually catch the criminal. Unfortunately for the criminal a dog does not have any hands to grab onto the criminal so the dog uses what he can, which is the mouth.
